Day 1

Arrival Kanombe Airport - Kigali

On arrival, you will be met by our staff at Kanombe Airport in Kigali; he will help you with your luggage to the car. After check in to your hotel, he will brief you about Rwanda, your travel itinerary, culture and all other important information.

Day 2

Visit the Genocide Museum before driving to Nyungwe Forest NP

After breakfast drive to Butare; a town concentrated with education Institutions and Universities; it has the national museum, research institutions, and the Kings palace at Nyabisindu. These will insight you into the culture, traditions and history of Rwanda. Have lunch in Butare before proceeding to Nyungwe Forest NP for your overnight stay arriving early enough to your hotel for dinner.

In Mwanza 88 km from Kigali is the Royal Palace traditionally build; thus, offering a detailed insight into the tradition of the Rwanda monarchy, in its 19th Century state in traditional material. It is coupled with the royal burial grounds at Mwima and Gicada and a mockup of the traditional thatch house of kings.

Nungwe NP in southern Rwanda was established in 1933, covering 1030 sq kms in the Albertine rift of montane vegetation and ancient Mountain that date back to the Ice Age. The park is a rich flora diversity of more than 200 species of trees while flowering plants are countless, remarkably the worldly giant lobelia and colorful orchids.

Day 3

Chimp Tracking and Canopy Walk

After breakfast go for chimp tracking experience in Nyungwe forest, it has great opportunities to viewing a variety of monkeys, orchids, and some of the Albertine endemics species of birds. In the afternoon do a canopy walk; walking on top of tree tops.

The park has over 13 species of primates, including the chimpanzee, the handsome L’Hoest’s monkey and hundreds of the delightfully acrobatic Angola Columbus. Other mammals include leopards, golden cats, bush pigs and black fronted duiker among others, the park lies in the Albertine species endemic area with a bird checklist of over 300 species with an avian highlight of the great blue turaco; the blue, red and green bird which streams from tree to tree like a procession of streamlined psychedelic turkeys

Day 4

Drive to Kibuye, Boat Ride

After breakfast drive to Kibuye through tea plantations to the shores of Lake Kivu for a relaxation moment, arrive in time for lunch on the beautiful shore to regain back the energy used in the Nyungwe hikes and activities.

Day 5

Drive to Lake Kivu Resort

After breakfast you may either cross to Gisenyi by boat or drive all the way from Kibuye to Hotel Malahide for an overnight stay. This 4 or 6hour drive passes through the solidified volcanic magma landscape of beautiful views and scenery.

Day 6

Kayak to Gisenyi

After breakfast get on to your kayak to Gisenyi.

Day 7

Boat Ride and Drive to Ruhengeri

After breakfast shall have a boat cruise on lake Kivu, the biggest volcanic crater lake that however has fresh water; a boat cruise on this lake will insight you to formation theories, water birds, hot springs. You could swim in the lake since the lake is bilharzia free. There after shall settle down for lunch at your hotel before driving to Ruhengeri town.

Ruhengeri town is set at a base of solidified lava flow reveals a fascinating relic of the volcanic activity that could have led to the formation of the lakes of Burera, Ruhondo and Karago.

Day 8

Gorilla Tracking

After your early morning breakfast, with packed lunch, go for registration at the park offices and be ready for briefing at 7:00am. Walk up the steep densely forested hills in search for the Golden monkey a rare specialty endemic to the Virunga ecosystem.

A park described by Dian Fossey as an area you shiver than sweat is located in NW Rwanda, an old volcano of green rain forest protecting the virunga mountain range that is about 15000 feet high. It comprises of five volcano peaks; Karisimbi 4,507m, Bisoke 3,711m, Muhabura 4,127m, Gahinga 3,474m and Sabyinyo 3,634m. it is rich of montane ecosystems of evergreen bamboo forest, open grass land, swamp and heath home to the rare mountain gorilla.

The parks exhilarating trekking, experience you to the cultivated foothills, stirring views of the mysterious intimacy of the rainforest, the calls of colorful birds and chattering of the rare golden monkey. While the elusive populations of buffalo and elephant are regularly heard spurring in the forest and through the forest canopy gaps you may glimpse at the magnificent mountain peaks of the Virunga volcanoes.

Day 9

Golden Monkeys Tracking

After your early morning breakfast, with packed lunch, go for registration at the park offices and be ready for briefing at 7:00am. Walk up the steep densely forested hills before coming across the Gorillas camouflaged in the forest vegetation. This trek requires a reasonable degree of fitness as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes. Sit in the forest among the Gorillas listening to them grumble to each other and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male. It is a pity to think that there are only 1000 individuals of these beautiful creatures left in the world.

Day 10

Drive to Akagera NP

After breakfast drive to the east of Rwanda, after 7hrs drive, arrive at the Akagera National Park gate. Drive to the park office handle the bureaucracy and drive to your hotel; check in, relax before an evening game drive.

Akagera NP covers 2500 sq Kms East of Rwanda of a savannah landscape dominated by tangled acacia woodland intercepted by open grass lands. The park is graced with remarkable herds of Elephants, Buffaloes while the elusive leopards and graceful lions and noisy hyenas are regular sights. Its wonderful grass land is haunted by the giraffe and zebra while the park enjoys a checklist of over a dozen species including the predominant Impala, oribi, the secretive bush buck, the rare Tsessebe and the Eland; the largest antelope.

Day 11

Full Day Game Drive

After breakfast drive to the northern part of the park for a full day game drive; north Akagera is famous for great sightings of the Giraffe, Rhinos, lions among others. with a packed lunch enjoy the rolling hills and acacia trees dominated habitat to retreat back to your hotel in the evening rather tiered but with great memories.

The park enjoys a bird checklist of 525 species of birds and lining the lakes is the largest concentration of water birds while the dieting raptors haunt the skies to assert their status as avian monarchs of African waters. The park marshes are a home to the endangered papyrus gonolek the African most sought bird the Shoebill stork.

Day 12

Drive to Kanompe Airport for Departure

After breakfast go for early morning game drive to the Mutumba plateau; view the Akagera Lakes and the Karagwe mountains, descend to the bottom lakes for a picnic before driving back to Kigali for departure.
